The Art of Ugly Dancing//

Inspired by the 18th century's technique to document important ballroom dances on paper, I have perpetuated the most loved (and hated) dance steps of our time - the ugly dances. The aim was to create a visually understandable system that lets you find unexpected design beauty in underestimated movements, and in the same way create instructions for future reproduction. Recognition for everyone is the key, so I created the book The Art of Ugly Dancing with a line-based-system that lets you see the dance steps from above and how they progress over time, in one illustration.
  • Every line represents one body part's movement. Included in this project is also the ugly dancing art film - another way to perpetuate the "ugly" steps in the environment they deserve...

The system let’s you read the instruction of the dance step, where every line represents one body part’s movement seen from above, over time. Read from the bottom to the top, below is The Bird Dance. In the book are also Macarena, Moonwalk, Headbanging, Air Guitar, Running Man and more.
